THE
SCHOOL
Intercultura Language School offers a series of 16
courses designed by curriculum specialists, using interactive
small groups in an environment of total immersion in the Latin
culture of Central America.
Our
instructors are university trained and credentialed to teach
Spanish as a second language. We give all teachers further
instruction on teaching in the context of total cultural
immersion. Academic credit through an accredited US university
is available.
THE
SCHEDULE
Intercultura provides 4 hours of class activity
every weekday. We also provide such activities as free Latin
dance lessons, spanish cooking classes, and educational
seminars. At our Pacific Ocean Beach Campus, outdoor
activities supplement the extra-curricular activities at the
Heredia Campus. Weekends are free time, but usually
busy.
CAMPUS
LOCATIONS
The Main Campus of Intercultura is in Heredia,
close enough to the Costa Rican capital of San Jose to be
busy, yet with the friendly atmosphere of a small college
town.
The Sámara Beach Campus, on the Pacific Ocean, is
open the last week of each month (two weeks in high season)
for all students who have completed one week of school.
Classrooms are comfortable and breezy. Students may choose to
share rooms in a luxury hotel or stay with local families.
HOMESTAY
A
key element of our educational approach is the opportunity to
stay with carefully selected and trained middle class Costa
Rican families, matched to the needs of the student. The
homestay includes two meals a day (breakfast and dinner) with
supportive people who assist the student in daily
interactions, and sometimes even help with
homework!
CULTURAL
ACTIVITIES
Our school
assists students in arranging trips to the many protected rain
forests, mountains, volcanos, beaches, museums, local and San
Jose night life, amusement parks and other attractions. Some
students just "hang out" weekends, to study and relax locally,
surf the internet, or enjoy the town's large swimming
pool.
We maintain contact with social service and
environmental organizations that need volunteers in Costa
Rica. We help students contact organizations to arrange
activities that meet everyone's interests and needs.
